Pythagorean table for 2011-12 French Ligue 1 (2012-3-25)

We present the Pythagorean table for the 2011-12 French Ligue 1 season, for matches played up to 25 March 2012. The standard league Pythagorean exponent of 1.70 is used.

The league title remains a two-team race between Montpellier and PSG as they appear to be playing at a different level from the rest of the league.  Lille are also playing well enough to be a legitimate contender, but the top two have raised their game.  Toulouse have surged into the top four but they are coming from too far back to contend for the title.  Marseille have cooled off in a big way since January and their Pythagorean residual reflects that.

At the other end of the table, the serious underperformance of Auxerre and Nice have caught up with them as they find themselves in danger of slipping down to Ligue 2.  Auxerre’s situation is particularly worrying because of their defense.  Sochaux are just a bad team at present.  Ajaccio and Dijon can’t become complacent as the league reaches its final phase.
