Final Pythagorean table for the 2011-12 German Bundesliga

Below is the final Pythagorean table for this season’s German Bundesliga which concluded on 5 May.  The league Pythagorean exponent is 1.70.

Borussia Dortmund repeated as Bundesliga champions, but the title could have been much closer.  According to the Pythagorean expectation, Bayern should have finished level on points with Dortmund, which meant that Bayern dropped some winnable points that made the difference in the championship.

Hannover finished as the biggest overachievers in the league for the second year in succession, although they won 12 fewer points than before.  Teams finished pretty much were you would expect them to finish on their goal records, with the exceptions of Stuttgart, Hoffenheim, and Mainz.

At the bottom of the table, Köln and Kaiserslautern earned their relegations, but the playoff spot was a tossup between Hertha and Hamburg, and Hertha lost.
