Administrative stuff

A couple of things that I doubt anyone will care about, but will state nonetheless.

(1) I haven't decided what categories to use for my posts.  There are general subject areas in mathematics or statistics that these posts will belong to, but also be applied to certain stats/measurements in soccer (team metrics, league metrics, player metrics).  It's an analogue of the basic/applied research subdivisions in academia and government research agencies or discipline/component groups and program/project groups in industry.  To this end, I'll place most of my posts in at least two categories: the general subject area and the specific application.  I'll fill in some of those categories tonight and add some more through the coming week.

(2) I may feel the need to write some math equations on occasion, but until recently I couldn't find the right program that would allow me to publish equations on a blog using LaTeX.  (I could have solved the problem by using having my own website, but I don't want to do that right now.)  I came across a LaTeX-to-image renderer on ScienceSoft, an Austrian software company.  Here's an example of what it can do:

I'll have to play with the DPI, but it looks like a good solution.  And the image file doesn't take up a lot of space, either.
